Torrey , a gorgeous German Shorthaired Pointer mix, has been adopted by Michael and his family in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Torrey will be joining their other rescue dog, Coco, and will be a cherished family member.

They wrote: We are a family of 5, with a daughter in college and two boys in high school. We have one small dog who has lived with for the past two years; she too is a rescue dog. We are a very active family with a larger home near a wonderful dog park, open space, and trails. We love dogs and feel that Torrey would be an excellent addition to our home.

We are so happy to have been able to find a good home for Torrey.

Here is how our dog rehoming team presented Torry to attract his new family:

Hi, My name is Torrey!

Perfect family dog, anyone? Torrey is such a great companion! This 3 year old mixed breed dog has been spayed, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. She is very well behaved, and has been perfectly house broken and leash trained. She is a mix of uncertain origins, however it is likely she is a German Shorthaired Pointer mix, given her spots and dark brown coloring.

Torry gets along very well with other dogs and cats, and she loves children. She weighs 60 pounds, and has a short, smooth and silky chocolate and white coat.

Torrey is being rehomed by her owners. They have been faced with a number of difficult situations that make providing a home for Torrey impossible. They are dearly hoping to find a new family who will cherish Torrey as much as they have.

Torreys’ ideal new home will be with people who have lots of time to spend with her. She would love to have a securely fenced back yard to play in. She is a cuddle muffin who thrives on human companionship, and loves children.

Torrey will be rehomed with some supplies, along with the sincere gratitude of her owners, who would love to stay in touch with her new family, at least for the first while.

If you have room in your heart and home for this fabulous family friend, please offer Torrey the home she needs and deserves today!

Torrey’s Personality

1) Her sweetness – possibly the sweetest, most loving creature I have ever met.
2) She can be very goofy. She likes to sleep with her legs straight up in the air, which looks hilarious with her long legs.
3) She’s very nice to cuddle with of the sofa.
4) She’s good with kids. She has completely convinced my daughter everything we’ve said about good manners with dogs for safety isn’t true.
5) She doesn’t go out into the yard and bark at passersby. (Many dogs in our neighborhood do this.)
6) She loves going to the dog park to socialize – she greets most of the humans as well as their dogs.
7) She seems very conscious of her size most of the time and doesn’t jump up or bowl people over. (Aside from her tail, which can give a pretty solid whap!)

Torrey’s Current Home Environment

We have a second dog (a vizsla – extremely active). We had a cat, but we recently had to let him go. Torrey hasn’t had a lot of direct interaction with cats, as he was elderly and mostly hid in our bedroom away from the dogs. She never threatened him when he was out and about, though she was definitely curious about him. The dogs are typically crated during the day while we are at work. Torrey would be happier without a crate, but the vizsla needs it. They have a dog door to go in and out as they wish (unless it’s wet outside). We take Torrey to the dog park 1-2 times a week. I take the other dog for runs, which makes her very sad.

Torrey’s Current Family:

We’re a very busy and active family (which is a large part of why we feel rehoming is the best choice for Torrey). There are 3 adults and 1 child in my household. We enjoy hiking and camping – the former, Torrey has the will but it makes her to sore. She does NOT like camping. She hides in our tent and looks pathetic the entire time. (There are some camping photos in the album I linked. Completely pitiful.) We also enjoy skiing, though neither dog gets to participate in that one.

Torrey’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

We don’t do a lot of toys, because they get annihilated the same day they come home. She gets Himalayan chews, which are a big hit. She likes the jerky style of treats, or anything that has a strong smell. She loves cheese. She’ll do just about anything for a bit of bacon. She’s not typically food motivated (she could free-feed now, but the vizsla is greedy), so she’s been very difficult to train. She loves to run, though we limit it. Second favorite is definitely napping on the sofa with a human.

Why is Torrey Being Rehomed?

It’s a collection of small things adding up.
First, I’m allergic. Taking an allergy pill helps, but it is growing less effective.
Second, Torrey’s inability to hike and dislike of camping make her a poor fit for our family. As our daughter gets older, we are doing more and more of these activities, and have been frustrated at times that we can’t do some things together – someone must stay home.
Third, Torrey is very submissive, particularly towards my husband. She’s very sensitive to the tone of his voice, and won’t eat if he sounds at all tense or rushed.
Fourth: My husband lost his job last year and took a severe paycut when he found another. It greatly limits our financial ability to care for the dogs, or to board one/both when we want to be away longer than 8ish hours.
Fifth: My job is requiring more travel, and having care of the dogs and my daughter by himself puts a lot of strain on my husband.
Sixth: Due to our financial situation, we’re planning to move, and cannot take the dogs along with us when we do so. (To be clear, we’re only looking for help rehoming Torrey. Our other dog is a purebred vizsla and will be rehomed by the local rescue pretty easily.)

Torrey’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

A family or individual that doesn’t need as much activity from their animal companions. Someone who can commit to not putting Torrey in a shelter. Someone who will love her for her personality, rather than feel constrained by it.

Additional Comments:

Regarding contact – it would be nice to see pictures, but it’s not a requirement. We don’t want to visit her, however. We feel that will make things harder for her.
