Red Labrador Retriever Mix For Adoption

ADOPTED BY BRIAN

Hi Debbie,

Brian and his son picked up Riley this afternoon. Riley seems like he’s going to be very happy with this family. I am really glad you were able to help us. I am going to miss my boy, but I know they will take good care of him. It was good having time to get used to the idea. I told Brian they could call me or email me anytime if they have any questions.

Thank you for all you do!

Sincerely,

Julie T

Hi, My name is Riley!

Red labrador retriever mix for adoption

I am a fox red Male Lab mix Dog. I am 2 years and weigh 50lb. I live in Spring, TX.

He’s very cuddly. He’s perfectly still during bath time and likes peek a boo when you rub him down with the towel. He’s makes it known he prefers warm water, even if just a short swim. He loves going for rides in the car. He is particularly keen toward obstacle course type play. For example, during fetch he may randomly add his own twist to play time, like making a detour to jump over a bush, or run around a chair, or lap around the pool.

Riley’s Personality

He’s very cuddly. He’s perfectly still during bath time and likes peek a boo when you rub him down with the towel. He’s makes it known he prefers warm water, even if just a short swim. Riley’s Current Home Environment

Riley has free roam of our house when I am home but chooses to spend his days with me in my office. He keeps his basket of toys in here too. He let’s me know if I forget to open the blinds because he can’t watch the squirrels and passers by. His crate is his den and retreat when he’s tired. He loves all children who come to visit.

Riley’s Current Family:

Its just the four of us with Riley now, me, my husband and our two sons. Our daughter and kitty moved away to college. Riley misses his cat buddy, especially during nap time.

Riley’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

His favorite toys are his squeaky plush Chewbacca and a little orange chicken that chirps. He loves to run around and play. He adores peanut butter. He likes to swim when its warm and sunny. He loves doggie meetups on walks and with neighbor dogs.

Cute Riley Story:

After losing our last lab puppy after more than 14 years, a year ago, someone suggested we look at the shelter following the Memorial Day flooding. Not feeling convinced we were ready, none of the dogs appealed to us. Then we came upon Riley who was curled up in a small ball on the floor with another very sad dog. Neither animal was taking notice of any of the other people passing by. The moment Riley saw my son, he became fully animated and actually looked relieved. We opened the kennel door and out he came so full of joy and ready to cuddle. Needless to say we went home with a dog that day.

Why is Riley Being Rehomed?

New job requires travel overseas and I can’t take him with me.

Riley’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

He very much requires a clear understanding of his place in the pack at the beginning. Its very important that everyone in the home is involved with his daily care. If all parties in the house aren’t on board, then he is not the right dog for you.

Additional Comments:

We mix a couple cups of apple cider vinegar in a couple gallons of warm water as a rinse after his bath, to keep his skin healthy and fur shiny. It minimizes odor and prevents hot spots. Its really a must for this boy.

He appears to be very allergic to rawhide chews of any kind, even those labeled organic or all natural. Every time he’s had one he becomes one very sick little dog.
