Hi, My name is Milo!

Purebred-lab-for-adoption-in-louisiana-2

I am a purebred Black Male Labrador Retriever Dog. I am 8 yrs 9 mos and weigh 66 lbs. I live in New Orleans, LA.

I am such a loving and devoted dog. I may be a little long in the whiskers, but I make up for it in affection. I am very healthy and have been neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. I am house broken and very well behaved. I am pretty low-maintenance, although I still like to be active, and enjoy my daily walks. I am good with respectful children, and get along with other dogs.  I have never been around cats, but would probably be fine with them too.

My owner loves me so very much.  He has given me a wonderful home and lots of love. As much as he loves me, he is dearly hoping to find another die hard dog lover to take over my care. He has been offered a wonderful teaching position overseas, and simply cannot take me with him.

Milo’s Personality

1. His loving personality and affection
2. His quizzical looks when you’re talking with him
3. The way he greets me when I pick him up from the kennel, he talks and talks and talks and has to stand up on my chest until he’s had enough love
4. His friendly way with strangers who want to pet him during his walks on a leash
5. His amazing response to my son who he may not have seen for a year or more do his military service. (He remembers everything)
6. He even remembered pulling up to Pet Paradise after being away in California for FOUR years. I couldn’t believe how excited we were as we approached and pulled into the driveway. He REMEMBERED.

Milo’s Current Home Environment

We’re currently in a Condo (six months) but this is unusual as he has always had access to a yard. He has his own extra large bed but moves between it and the floor. It’s relatively quiet but he would be equally happy playing if he could all the time.
He’s also never had to live outside. he loves playing but when you go in he’s ready to follow. Smile.

Milo’s Current Family:

I am a divorcee but am engaged to be married, so, for the last 18 months he’s been exposed to my fiance’ on a regular basis. My kids are both grown so there have been no young children in his life but he palys with anyone and everyone who is kind.
My daughter is a Veterinarian and my son is a Captain in the Army. My son sees Milo about once a year on average and my daughter two to three time a month.

Milo’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

He loves pulling ropes and chasing tennis balls. He will chase a tennis ball for an hour if you let him.

He loves to lay in a wading pool to when he’s chasing balls in the summer months

He has a sensitive stomach but tolerates Beneful Playful Life mixed with a little water and 3/4 of a tub of Beneful Prepared Meals twice daily.

Cute Milo Story:

Although he won’t touch your food he will stare you down if you’re eating on the couch in front of the TV. If ignored he’ll tap you with his paw and simply stare at the plate then at you and then the plate and then you. Even if you explain that he won’t get any he’ll sit at attention and paw you again and again until you just HAVE to give him a nibble.
We always cook one extra strip of bacon for him on Saturdays if we have breakfast at home…….

Why is Milo Being Rehomed?

I will be taking a position teaching out of the country in January. Although pets are allowed the Airport was damaged by a Hurricane two years ago and the runways have been repaired they are not long enough now to accommodate a Cargo plane large enough to transport a crate to carry him. Commercial planes to the Island have restrictions on the size crates they will carry.

Milo’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

Someone who will LOVE and nurture him, and allow him to live indoors. He has to be pretty active so I am not sure that he will not fair well with an elderly frail person who is unable to provide him with some play time. He has not had children in the home but is very friendly. So, this would need to be explored especially if the children are relatively young. I’m not sure that he would tolerate kids who are pulling and tugging on him, yelling or screaming as his environment has been pretty quiet. So, perhaps kids above the age of 10.

Additional Comments:

I would love to know how Milo is doing but I don’t want to interfere with his new family. I think that it would be very hard on him if he saw me again but God knows that I would love to keep him. I’m very torn.
