Looking for an English Springer Spaniel or Labrador Retriever to adopt near Denver, Colorado? Combine the best of both breeds, and adopt Stanley – a 5 year old Springer/Lab mix. This healthy, fixed, 65 pound male dog needs a home without small children or cats.
Stanley is unbridled joy on four legs! He has such an uplifting personality that it’s impossible to feel blue when he is around. He is playful annd enthusiastic, devoted and affectionate.
Stanley has been neutered, is up to date on shots, and is very healthy. He is house trained and obedience trained – a “ready-to-love” dog.
Unfortunately, Stanley’s owners have had to make the difficult choice to find him a loving new home. Their son is just at the age where he is starting to toddle around, and it has become clear that Stanley is very anxious around small children.
The ideal home for Stanley (and Zoe) will be with dog lovers who do not have children under 10 or cats. They should have plenty of time to spend with him, and be able to give him the exercise, playtime, snuggles and stimulation he needs and very much deserves. Stanley would love to have a securely fenced back yard to play in.

Health Problems: Allergic to wheat as well as most people food. Can tell an allergic reaction is beginning by redness developing in one ear. Apply medication to relieve and prevent further redness.
The best brand of food we have found that he is not allergic to is Taste of the Wild: Pacific Stream (we have tried many brands of food) and we buy it on Amazon
Behavior Issues:
Stanley is protective of his toys, and does not like to share with other dogs. He is very anxious around small children and is suited only to a home with adults and kids older than 10. He is not good with cats. Ideally, Stanley should be an only pet in a loving home without small children, and with people who have a large, securely fenced yard for him to play in.

Stanley’s Personality
-I love Stanley’s smell, kisses and cuddles
-I love Stanley’s joy at life and how happy he is just running around in the yard
-I love Stanley’s direct eye contact and intensity of expression when you are talking to him or when he wants something
-Stanley’s excitement to see me every time I come home, even if it has only been 5 minutes.
-Stanley’s readiness for adventure and action. He will position himself in the place where that is most likely to happen (on top of our couch looking into the kitchen)
Stanley’s Current Home Environment
Due to our son becoming a toddler, our home environment is full of playing, movement and activity during the days. Stanley (as well as Zoe) are kept separate from our son in our main room off of the kitchen from our son due to safety concerns in the past.
We often have people over at night and once our son goes to bed, the dogs interact with whoever is over (unless they have small children). We spend a lot of time as a family outside with the dogs on our 3/4 acre lot. During the non-winter months, we are able to walk Stanley and Zoe every couple of days if not every day.
Stanley’s Current Family:
Dave and I brought Stanley and Zoe into our family of two a little over four years ago when they were both puppies. At the time, I was able to work part-time and spend a lot of time with each dog.
For the following 4 years, we played, went on trips and adventures together. We moved a couple of times to houses with bigger and bigger yards because of our love for them.
Our son, Sam, was born 21 months ago and we made the transition to a family of 5, hoping the dogs would adjust. Sadly, they have not adjusted as we had hoped and that has led to this heartbreaking but hopeful decision to find them a home with a high quality of life for them.

He loves water in any form and will chase the sprinkler of hose water all day. He also enjoys swimming and will jump into the pool after a toy for hours.
Cute Stanley Story:
A couple of weeks ago, my son and I were playing outside while Stanley was running around the yard. We decided to play inside a little kid house for a few minutes and I asked Stanley to come over and “say hi”.
He ran over to lick our hands through the small window, but instead got so excited that he proceeded to jump right through the window into the small house with us.
Since there was barely space for all three of us, he quickly took a seat on my lap and calmly looked around like that was what he wanted to do all along!
Why is Stanley Being Rehomed?
Since our toddler was born, Stanley has not adjusted well to the unpredictable movements and activity around him, as well. He often does fine, but has reacted by growling and biting his hand once.
Because of this, we are looking for a home for Stanley that will better fit his needs.
Stanley’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:
-Somewhere where Stanley has a yard and people that will give him lots of love and attention is paramount. Ideally, he would not be around small children as their unpredictability and movement cause him stress and he can lash out in those situations.
He would also need to be in a place without cats and other dogs as he can become territorial with other dogs and aggressive towards cats.
