Hi, My name is Ava!

Australian-cattle-dog-mix-puppy-for-adoption-san-antonio

Are you looking for a wonderful family companion to add immeasurable love, joy, laughter and companionship to your life and home? Ava is such a great little girl. She is so good with people of all ages and sizes, and gets along well with other dogs, too.

Ava is just 4 months old. She is spayed, micro-chipped, fully vaccinated and very healthy. She has been perfectly leash trained, and has undergone obedience training, too!

Ava is a mellow little cuddle bug that thrives on love, attention and the companionship of people.

Her owners love Ava to bits! She was adopted from the local humane society, and they had intended to be her forever family. As things sometimes happen, life has gotten in the way of their plans for Ava. Both owners have extremely busy schedules with work and school, and living in an apartment makes giving Ava the exercise she needs very difficult. They feel badly that they do not have the time to give Ava, and they feel that she is lonely as a result. They want a better life for her.

Ava is looking to find her forever family. She would love people who have lots of time to spend with her so that she does not need to be home alone all the time. She would love to live in a house with a securely fenced yard. Some great kids to play with, and possibly a dog friend would be the icing on the cake.

Personality

Ava is a 4 month old australian cattle dog mix with a very mellow temperament. Her perfect day would be cuddling up at your feet on a soft warm blanket, some “play breaks to play with her toys,” then a leisurely walk around the park to meet new people/dogs. Her favorite toys are her tennis ball, spikey chew toy, and her rope toy.

She is potty trained to ring a bell with her nose when she needs to go out, crate trained (sleeps in her crate and can be left in her crate for up to 5 hours). She knows sit, lay down, shake, crawl, and (sometimes) roll over. She is absolutely AMAZING with new people, other dogs, and children but hasn’t met a cat yet. We have traveled with her to four different cities (as far as 5 hours away) and she travels well in the car and just sleeps the whole time (in her crate).

We have worked on leash training and overall she walks well with slack on the leash unless she gets distracted by other dogs/butterflies. She has received all of her puppy shots and is spayed. This is the sweetest puppy you will ever meet and we are looking for a home that can best suit her needs. We think a home in which somebody home throughout the day, there are kids present, a yard available, or another dog would be the best fit for her.

Reason For Rehoming

We adopted a puppy from SAPA (San Antonio Pet’s Alive) in late October and love her to death, but feel that we are unable to meet her basic needs. We live on the fourth floor of an apartment, I am in grad school and my husband works as an accountant, and this past week she has had intermittent diarrhea in her crate while we have been gone. We realized that in situations like this we don’t have the ability to give her the care that she needs.

This past week, I had to miss class (and almost a final exam) and my husband had to miss work which put us both under a tremendous amount of stress and we feel like we are about to lose our sanity. Before adopting her we did tons of research, rewrote our budget, bought all the necessary home items, traveled to many different shelters, etc. and we genuinely thought we could take on the challenge, but we have to be honest with ourselves that we just cannot handle the demands.

For our marriage’s sake and for the sake of this sweet puppy, it pains us to say that we think she would be better suited for a different lifestyle with a new family.
