Lab pitbull mix for adoption in atlanta

I am a young (2 year old), very healthy neutered male Labrador Retriever / American Pitbull Terrier mix. I am a very smart boy, and also very obedient. I have had lots of training, and have shown that I can learn complicated stuff very quickly. I love humans so much. I am great with strangers and kids too, but because I am very attached to my food and toys, small children might not be the best choice for me as housemates.

I’m a pretty easy-to-care-for dog. I don’t need a ton of exercise, but will be happy to accompany you on a walk. I like to play, but not excessively. I’m AOK to spend an afternoon on the couch with you. I am warm and snuggly, and a great listener.

I am also a really good watch dog. I like to keep an eye on things for you, and can be counted on to let you know if there is a visitor at the door. My size and appearance is more than enough to keep prowlers away! I love to spend a few hours each day in the window watching birds and other critters in the yard. I am also a “Kong-A-Holic”… give me my Kong and I am in Heaven!

So this leads me to the reason why I am looking for a new home… His name is Tuk, and he is my dog nemesis. Tuk and I live in the same home, and we just don’t see eye to eye. He’s a big Boxer, and I am afraid that he is going to steal my food, toys and Kongs. They are very precious to me, and me guarding my stuff has led to more than a few altercations between us. This has made for a very stressful home environment. Our owners have to keep us separated all day and night, and they worry about us constantly.

As much as it breaks their hearts, they feel that it would be best to find me a loving home where I am the only pet. So that I don’t have to worry about any pet or person trying to take my stuff. I am such a good boy, so well behaved, calm and easy-going – but with this one issue that is easily solved by being the only pet.

Because of my “resource guarding”, small kids might not be a good fit – just to be on the safe side. I would be just fine with adults only – or a family with kids who are older than 10.

I would love to have a securely fenced yard to patrol, and owners with lots of time to spend with me.

Please offer me the loving home I need and deserve today. I can’t wait to show you what a really smart, devoted and loving dog I am!

Love and licks,

Argus

Argus’s Current Home Environment

Our home environment is stressful at the moment. Argus does not get along with our other pets. We have to keep our dogs separated via baby gates throughout the day.

Argus’s Current Family:

My wife and I live in a small home with a yard and 4 pets (2 – 15 year old cats and 2 dogs). We rescued Argus when he was ~14 weeks old, and introduced him to the cats and our other dog – an 85lb neutered boxer named Tuk. The two dogs became fast friends and remained that way until after Argus reached 1.5 years old and he began to outwardly exhibit signs of resource guarding.

Argus’s Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities?

Argus likes most anything Kong makes. However, his favorite is a large blue squeaker that was pulled from toy that was worn out.

Argus likes to sit by the window and watch critters in the yard, playing fetch in the yard, playing in muddy puddles, sleeping on our feet while we work, sleeping by the fireplace.

In addition to his regular food (Purina Pro Plan) he enjoys fresh vegetables and fruits. Occasionally he will steal a tomato or pepper out of the garden. He also enjoys playing with a fresh (whole) coconut outside in the grass.

Cute Argus Story:

A few weeks ago Argus figured out he could steal vegetables from the plants in the garden. He took a large spicy banana pepper and proceeded to sit with it in the yard, gnawing on stem. Once he chewed down to the pepper itself and the seeds, he quickly realized it was not for him and tried to set it back down in the garden where he found it.

Why is Argus Being Rehomed?

Argus and our older dog, Tuk (85 lbs. boxer) do not get along as they both want to protect us from each other. Tuk gets along with all the other family dogs and is not aggressive with our cats. This is leading us to separate Argus all night and every time we leave the house in order to protect both the dogs. When we are home, we have the house split in two and the dogs are rotated periodically to spend time with us.

It is very stressful for both the dogs and us, to keep them completely separated and divide our attention fairly between the two dogs. Both the dogs are under constant stress because of this. They are adjusting to the situation but any slip on our part in keeping them separate is dangerous for them and us.

Argus is a young dog and has a full life ahead of him. It is not fair for him to live under such stress especially when all he wants to do is love and protect us. It is an incredible hard decision for us to find a new home for him but we feel it is the responsible thing to do. Tuk and Argus have engaged in some serious fights and have to be kept completely separated for their own protection.

It will be hard for him (and us) to be rehomed because he has a very strong bond with us. But in the long run, it will be best for him to be in a house where he can love without being stressed about another animal in the house.

Argus’s Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be:

He would be perfect for an older couple preferably without young children. Although he is gentle, patient, and playful with kids, he resource guards all the time.

He would really enjoy living with an active family that plays with him but also lets him sit by them window to watch birds for a few hours every day.

Additional Comments:

Had a 2 week dog obedience training boot camp and received a training collar. Has 2 additional sessions that can be utilized by the new owners.
Jabula Training Academy. Avondale Estates.

We are trying to find a place where a happy young dog can live out the rest of his days without the constant stress of other animals.
